PRP – Platelet-Rich Plasma

Does your skin feel dry, saggy, or show signs of wrinkles and fine lines? Are you struggling with scars or hair loss? Would you like to improve your skin quality holistically, activating growth factors and cell renewal in the most natural way? PRP treatment, also known as the “vampire facial,” uses the client’s own plasma to provide versatile benefits for skincare and addressing hair loss.

PRP treatment is a natural and effective method based on platelet-rich plasma. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is an autologous biological blood product rich in growth factors and other bioactive molecules. These play a key role in stimulating cell reproduction, tissue growth, collagen synthesis, and new blood vessel formation.

Plasma therapy offers a new therapeutic approach focused on repairing tissue damage and healing wounds caused by prolonged inflammation or altered signaling pathways. The treatment balances growth factors and other molecules affecting the damaged tissue area, promoting tissue regeneration. As a minimally invasive method, PRP is inherently safe due to its autologous nature, without the risk of immunological reactions or infections.

What is the treatment?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a natural and effective treatment method that utilizes the regenerative properties of platelet-rich plasma to deliver growth factors and bioactive molecules to the skin. These active substances stimulate cell proliferation, tissue growth, collagen and elastin production, hyaluronic acid formation, and the development of new blood vessels. By using the growth factors in your own plasma, PRP promotes skin cell renewal and improves microcirculation. Beyond aesthetic benefits, PRP has been clinically proven to aid in wound healing and tissue repair. PRP treatment can also be combined with other therapies to enhance results.

PRP is prepared by isolating platelets and plasma from other blood components. The preparation method impacts the final composition and platelet concentration of the product. The healing and regenerative effects of PRP are linked to growth factors and other bioactive molecules stored in the platelets or plasma. The concentration of these growth factors depends on the preparation process and PRP quality (platelet quality, presence of leukocytes) and may also vary between individuals.

What results can be achieved?

PRP treatment improves overall skin quality, restores hydration balance, and reduces fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. The skin becomes firmer and more elastic. The treatment also has sebum-regulating and antimicrobial effects. As skin functions are activated, the face appears more refreshed and youthful. PRP is particularly beneficial for rejuvenating and strengthening the delicate under-eye area.

For hair loss prevention and treatment, PRP activates hair follicles and enhances scalp circulation, resulting in stronger, denser, and more active hair growth. PRP is also used to treat alopecia. Plasma therapy is an excellent complement to more aggressive treatments, such as laser therapy or deep chemical peels, accelerating recovery and enhancing outcomes. After hair transplantation, a series of PRP treatments is recommended to ensure the success of surgical results.

During the treatment, the growth factors in your plasma activate skin cell renewal and improve microcirculation. Results start to appear after about three weeks, and 2–3 booster sessions at monthly intervals can prolong the results for up to two years.

Are there any restrictions on treatment?

PRP is not recommended for individuals with blood cancers or skin cancer in the treatment area, hepatitis C, HIV or AIDS, cardiovascular disease requiring blood thinners, platelet dysfunction syndrome (e.g., Von Willebrand disease), critical thrombocytopenia, or acute infections. It is also not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals. If you have any concerns about your suitability for the treatment, please contact Klinik Linnea’s staff.

Recovery time

PRP treatment involves no significant downtime, though injection-based methods may cause temporary redness. Minor swelling and bruising are possible, particularly when small needles are used. Most clients can resume their normal routines immediately.

Maintenance of results

For optimal and long-lasting results, a series of treatments is recommended. We suggest a series of 6–10 sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart. Afterward, maintenance treatments 2–3 times a year are advised. The number of sessions is always tailored to your skin’s needs in consultation with Klinik Linnea’s professionals. Treatment effects begin to appear after about three weeks. PRP can also be combined with other treatments for enhanced results.

Remember to care for your skin with home products. Proper aftercare enhances and maintains the treatment results. Klinik Linnea recommends high-quality ZO Skin Health or AlumierMD products for home use.

Patient data collection

For botulinum, PRP, and Class 4 laser treatments, we use the Acute patient information system, which is secure, comprehensive, and certified by Finland’s Kela and the Kanta system. The system complies with Finnish laws on patient rights and healthcare data management. Information is stored in the Kanta archive, where patients can view and manage their records via the Omakanta service.

Be prepared to present proof of identity when you arrive for your appointment, such as a Kela card or driver’s license.

How should I prepare for the treatment?

No special preparation is required.

What does the treatment include?

The treatment includes an initial skin consultation, skin cleansing, the procedure itself, aftercare creams, aftercare instructions, and a relaxing Klinik Linnea moment. A blood sample is taken to prepare the PRP solution, which is administered into the skin through mesotherapy-like microinjections. The procedure can be done manually using a needle and syringe, with a mesotherapy device (mesogun), or combined with microneedling.

How long does the treatment take?

Approximately 60–90 minutes.

Is the treatment painful?

Pain is minimal or nonexistent. Some tingling, prickling, and warmth in the skin may occur but are normal and short-lived.

What are the typical post-treatment reactions?

You may experience mild redness and tightness immediately afterward. Swelling or dryness might occur later but typically resolves within a week. Good aftercare accelerates recovery.

What are the aftercare instructions?

We will review aftercare instructions during the session. On the day of treatment, avoid touching the area and maintain strict hygiene. Replace face towels and pillowcases with clean ones. Makeup can be applied the next day. Avoid intense exercise for 24 hours and saunas for 1–3 days. Always protect your skin with SPF 50 sunscreen. If you have any concerns, please contact your practitioner.
