Hylase filler removal treatment

If you need to remove old fillers from previous treatments or wish to dissolve filler before it naturally breaks down, our doctors offer filler dissolution treatments with Hylase at Klinik Linnea.

The duration of a filler depends on the product used, typically lasting between 9–24 months. The most common reasons for dissolving hyaluronic acid fillers are unwanted results such as asymmetry, overfilling, capsule formation, filler migration above the lip line, or an unnatural appearance. In rare cases, filler may need to be dissolved to ensure proper healing in the event of an infection.

What is the treatment?

Filler dissolution uses hyaluronidase, a special prescription medication that can only be injected by a licensed doctor. Approval for its use must be obtained from the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea). At Klinik Linnea, filler removal treatments are always performed by specially trained doctors authorized to use hyaluronidase. During the treatment, Hylase (hyaluronidase) is injected into the area where the filler is to be removed. The treatment is no more painful than the original filler injection.

What results can be expected?

Hylase dissolution treatment successfully removes filler from the desired area. The results are typically visible within about two weeks, after which new filler treatment can be performed. In more complicated cases, multiple dissolution treatments may be necessary to fully remove the filler. There should be at least 1-4 weeks between dissolving sessions, and a follow-up treatment can be done once the area has healed from the previous procedure. Hyaluronidase does not permanently affect the skin’s own hyaluronic acid, so there is no damage to your natural tissues. The treatment can be repeated as needed, but Hylase does not dissolve calcium-based fillers.

Are there any restrictions for this treatment?

Dissolution treatment is not performed on pregnant or breastfeeding individuals. There is an 18-year age limit for filler treatments at Klinik Linnea. The treatment is not performed if your skin is frostbitten or sunburned. Any underlying health conditions and medications must be stable. If you are taking medication that affects blood clotting, it is important to inform your treating doctor. If you have any questions about the suitability of this treatment for you, please contact Klinik Linnea’s staff.

Recovery time

For some clients, the injection site may experience normal side effects such as swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising. These reactions typically resolve within a few days, usually no longer than a week after the treatment.

How should I prepare for the treatment?

We recommend eating before the treatment and coming in without makeup. To reduce bruising and bleeding sensitivity, we do not recommend anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., Burana) three days before treatment, or natural supplements (e.g., Omega-3, Vitamin E) one week prior. If you need pain relief, we recommend paracetamol. We will send you an electronic pre-treatment form, which you should fill out before your appointment.

What is included in the treatment?

The treatment includes a filler removal consultation, skin cleansing, the procedure itself, aftercare instructions, and 30 minutes of post-treatment follow-up.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Is there pain during the treatment?

There is no pain or only mild discomfort. Lidocaine is used in the dilution of Hylase (an anesthetic), making the treatment very well tolerated. Additionally, applying cold to the treatment area during the procedure works well as an additional numbing effect.

What are the most typical reactions after the treatment?

Some clients may experience normal side effects at the injection site, such as swelling, redness, tenderness, or bruising. These reactions typically resolve within a few days, and we recommend planning for these side effects when scheduling your treatment.

What are the aftercare instructions?

More detailed aftercare instructions will be provided during your treatment. On the treatment day, avoid touching the treated area and ensure thorough hygiene. For the next 2 days, avoid heavy physical exertion, sauna use, sweating, and direct UV exposure. We also recommend avoiding other facial treatments, facial massages, and any oral or facial procedures for 2 weeks after treatment. Cosmetics should not be applied to the treated area during the first 24 hours due to infection risk. Klinik Linnea recommends using SPF50 sunscreen year-round. If you have any questions about recovery, please contact the professional who performed your treatment.
