Although full faces are often perceived as youthful, excessive roundness of the cheeks can sometimes be visually disturbing. In this case, a uniform area of fat in the middle of the cheek can be removed. The goal is to make the face narrower in this area.
Who is suitable for cheek fat removal?
Cheek fat removal narrows the soft tissue in the middle of the cheek, so it is best suited for the roundness of the middle of the face. Cheek fat removal is rarely suitable for people with narrow faces, as the removal of this natural area of fat can make the face look too thin with age.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prepare for the procedure?
Weeks before the procedure:
· During the consultation with our surgeon, your health and suitability for the procedure will be assessed. Discuss your wishes and expectations with your surgeon. You may be asked to have various laboratory tests and other examinations to confirm your health status. Discuss with your surgeon about the medications and nutritional supplements you are taking. Certain medications (e.g. blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen), and some nutritional supplements (e.g. omega) can increase the risk of bleeding. Their use should be discontinued according to the surgeon’s instructions.
· Smoking impairs blood circulation, slows down wound healing and increases the risk of infection. We recommend that you stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the procedure and continue to be smoke-free after the procedure.
· Eat a varied and healthy diet and exercise regularly. Good general condition promotes recovery.
On the day of the procedure:
· Avoid alcohol at least 24 hours before the procedure, as alcohol can increase the risk of bleeding.
· Choose loose and comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and take off.
· Take the medications your surgeon has instructed you to take in the morning.
· If you are given sedatives, you will not be able to drive yourself. So arrange a ride home.
How does the procedure proceed?
During the consultation, you will be given an appointment time for the procedure. Arrive punctually. A nurse will meet you and go through the procedure with you. If necessary, you will receive sedative premedication and pain medication and you will be prepared for the procedure.
The cheek fat will be removed through an opening made inside the mouth, which will be closed with dissolvable stitches. The scar will remain inside the mouth and usually heals imperceptibly.
After the procedure, you will be able to recover in peace in the aftercare room, where the operating room nurse will go through the aftercare instructions with you and schedule a time for a check-up
What are the aftercare instructions?
After the surgery, it is important to follow the surgeon’s instructions. You may experience some pain; you can take painkillers if necessary. Avoid rubbing the wound in the mouth with your tongue and brush your teeth carefully. Saunas, swimming and bathing should be avoided until the wound has healed, for about 1-2 weeks. The recovery time is individual. A soft diet is recommended in the first few days. The use of antibacterial mouthwash is usually recommended during the healing period. The stitches will dissolve on their own.
Any bruising will subside on its own during the first few weeks. Mild swelling may be present for several weeks or even longer. The final result will be visible after the swelling has subsided after about 3-6 months.
