Ear lobe shaping and piercing scar repair

Ear lobe and piercing scar repair neatly and safely restores the natural shape of the ear. A torn or stretched piercing hole can be closed and reshaped, and keloids, or overgrown scars, can be removed.

Sometimes the ear lobe can also stretch with age, in which case it can be reduced to achieve a more youthful result. The procedures are performed under local anesthesia and with careful aftercare, the result is unnoticeable and long-lasting.

Who is suitable for ear lobe shaping?

The ear lobe is a sensitive area that can be damaged over time, in an accident or as a result of piercings. During the procedure, the torn or stretched piercing hole is carefully closed and shaped so that the ear returns to a natural appearance. Keloids are surgically removed and the normal shape of the ear is restored. As you age, the ear lobe can begin to stretch and droop, in which case it can be surgically reshaped and reduced.

Recovery time

The average healing time for earlobe repair and piercing scar repair is 1-2 weeks, but recovery is always individual. Complete tissue strengthening takes about 2-3 months. Any new desired piercing can be done in the area after 3-6 months. With careful aftercare, the results will remain beautiful and the scar will be shaped to be unnoticeable.

How do I prepare for the procedure?

Weeks before the procedure:
· During the consultation with our surgeon, your health and suitability for the procedure will be assessed. Discuss your wishes and expectations with the surgeon. You may be asked to undergo various laboratory tests and other examinations to confirm your health. Discuss with the surgeon about the medications and nutritional supplements you are taking. Certain medications (e.g. blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen), and some nutritional supplements (e.g. omega) may increase the risk of bleeding. Their use should be discontinued according to the surgeon’s instructions.

· Smoking impairs blood circulation, slows down wound healing and increases the risk of infection. We recommend that you stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the procedure and continue to be smoke-free after the procedure.

· Eat a varied and healthy diet and exercise regularly. Good general fitness promotes recovery.

On the day of the procedure:
· Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the procedure, as alcohol can increase the risk of bleeding.

· Choose loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and take off.

· Take the medications your surgeon has instructed you to take in the morning.

· If you are given sedatives, you will not be able to drive yourself. So arrange a ride home.

How does the procedure proceed?

During the consultation, you will be given an appointment time for the procedure. Arrive punctually. A nurse will meet you and go through the procedure with you. If necessary, you will receive sedative premedication and pain medication and you will be prepared for the procedure. Premedication is often not required for the procedure. After the procedure, you will be able to recover peacefully in the aftercare room, where the operating room nurse will go through the aftercare instructions with you and schedule a time for a check-up.

What are the aftercare instructions?

After surgery, it is important to follow your doctor’s instructions. The surgical area is usually covered with a dressing, which is kept in place according to the doctor’s instructions. Minor pain may occur, if necessary, you can take painkillers.

Keep the treated area clean by washing your hands carefully before touching the area. You can usually shower after 1–2 days, but avoid rubbing and pat the area dry. Saunas, swimming and bathing should be avoided until the wound has healed, about 1–2 weeks. If removable stitches are used, they are usually removed after about a week.
Scars usually remain red for 6–12 months. A fresh scar should be protected from the sun during this time, as it is sensitive to pigmentation. If the scar itches and thickens, it may be hypertrophic scarring, in which case silicone gel (e.g. Kelo-Cote) is recommended.

Contact your doctor if the wound starts to redden, swell, become hot or oozes pus, or if the pain increases or is not relieved by painkillers.
